What are Cruise Coins?

For anyone who has served in the military (and we Thank You for your service), you know of "Challenge Coins." For those of you unfamiliar with "Challenge Coins," we recommend that you look it up for a very interesting back story. We have created Cruise Coins for the same reason, to offer a coin to commemorate a special event. Following in the tradition, if you are "challenged" to produce your Cruise Coin at any time while on-board your cruise and cannot, you must buy your guests a round of drinks. The bonus is that if you can show your Cruise Coin, your "Challenger" must buy the drinks.

How much do they cost?

Cruise Coins have a MSRP of $24.95, which includes the custom display case. Prices may vary, be sure to check with your Event Coordinator, your Cruise Coin may cost less. We are committed to keeping the price affordable. So now you can have an amazingly original commemorative souvenir at less than the cost of some t-shirts on-board.

Can I buy a coin on the ship?

Not yet. Starboard Cruise Services leases all retail space from the major cruise lines and is given exclusive rights to selling all goods of any nature on-board. In order to remain in compliance of their policy, we offer Cruise Coins as a "pre-sail" item.

Can I receive my coin before the cruise?

Just like your special cruise, you'll have to wait until your sailing date. Once you hold the coin in your hand while on-board, you'll understand.

Are Cruise Coins available for every Cruise?

The idea of offering Cruise Coins is an entirely new concept and with over 500 Theme Cruises a year, some Event Coordinators are not yet aware of the availability of Cruise Coins. Contact your Event Coordinator and ask them if they offer Cruise Coins for your special event.

Can I order a coin even though I'm not on the cruise?

Cruise Coins can only be delivered to guests while on-board. That's what makes Cruise Coins so special. Cruise guests attending their special cruise can pre-order any additional amount of coins for friends and family.

Will I infringe on any trademarks or copyrights by offering Cruise Coins?

Absolutely not. Your coin design is for private use and considered a "fan based object." Cruise Coins celebrates the event much like a t-shirt or cup design. This is referred to as “functional” use of a mark. A more in-depth explanation can be be found Here.

Are Cruise Coins available for regular cruises?

Cruise Coins are currently available only for private cruise events and those guest attending. It is our goal to offer Cruise Coins to all cruise guests in the coming months. Ask your favorite cruise line if they offer Cruise Coins.

How are the "Virtual Design" and the Actual Coin different?

We first create your Cruise Coin as a virtual design, this allows us to edit text, add new graphics and identify special elements of the coin. While not an exact version of the real coin, it comes pretty close. Roll your mouse over the image below to see how the virtual design translates to the actual final coin. Tablet and Smart Phone users: "tap" to see actual coin, "tap" outside image to return to virtual design.

What are Cruise Coins made of?

Cruise Coins are created from solid brass with a process known as Die-Struck. They are finished with a safe, lead-free enamel paint. Over time, T-shirts fade and cups are lost but these 2” coins are strong and durable, ensuring years of enjoyment.
